Terms Glossary

LYA = Linda's Yarn Art

HL ILTY = Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn yarn

RHSS = Red Heart Super Saver yarn

VC = Vanna's Choice yarn

HOTH = Hot Off the Hook.

Yarn Barf or Yarn Vomit = The clump of tangled yarn that you pull out of a center pull skein.

Ami = Short for "amigurumi", a Japanese word for small crocheted animals/toys.

Yarn Bomb = A decorative piece of crocheted or knitted art that is strung up in public.

Freehand = Making an object without following a pattern.

Scrumble = Combining freehand and other crochet pieces to make a unique object.

Yarn Cakes = The small skeins of yarn that result from using a yarn winder. .

Stash = As a noun, your collection of yarn. As a verb, to amass a collection of yarn.

De-stash = Going through your stash and giving away yarn you aren't using.

Bicraftual = Someone who does multiple crafts, such as knitting and crochet.

Design Element = Phrase used to alleviate the frustration caused by a mistake in a project. That hole in the middle of your sweater isn’t a mistake, it’s a design element.

Frog = To rip out a project. So named because you “rip it, rip it”.

Hooker = Crocheter.

of Doom = Any project that is driving you insane but that you have to finish. It took Emily a year to finish crocheting the Blanket of Doom. (Feel free to capitalize for added drama.)

UFO = Unfinished object. Many unfinished objects are difficult to identify too.

WIP = Work in progress

Yarn Barf = Giant tangled mess of yarn.
