The "cut & tie" method when changing colors:
REGARDING CUT & TIE METHOD, BELOW ARE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW I PERSONALLY DO IT:
1) work old color up to last stitch and leave 2 loops on the hook - do not pull old OR new color thru.
2) "park" the hook in the next stitch (this will allow you to let go of the hook without worrying about loops coming off)
3) take your scissor and cut off old color, leaving about a1" tail in the back of the work. Don't worry that much about the variances in length.
4) grab your new color and tie it on to the old color in a square knot
5) "un-park" your hook and pull thru the new color to complete the single crochet stitch (remember you left 2 loops on the hook of the "old" color)
6) If you are working on the clean side of the work, leave the knot on the back - if you are working on the back side or messy side of the work, you will now need to bring the knot over the work, to the front. In either case now work your new color as many stitches as pattern calls for.
7) repeat above steps for each color change
